FILM RECORDING is now an antiquated process where computing is concerned. Most all recorders were PC[ibm] driven. Very few had MAC drivers. At dr5 we have maintained our older computers to keep this unique service alive.

CRT Image guide/Preparation:
Several file types can be used when recording to CRT. Size is also not as critical as LVT. A decent quality positive or negative can be produced with 25% smaller file sizes, though the larger the file the better the output. The CRT software aids in the quality. It is best however the file be as big as possible. Recording quality-output is best when the file is 1:1. Files for CRT can be: JPG, TIFF, PSD, PDF, EPS. If you are sending images from your digital camera, shoot in RAW. Save them as [convert] IBM-TIFF files. While a smaller file can produce CRT output, if you are going to project [slide projector, enlarged print] the image in any fashion, it is best you use the file-size guide below.

LVT Image Preparation: LVT is only for B&W output : dr5 INTERPOSITIVE, dr5 B&W SLIDE, B&W NEGATIVES. Files MUST be: TIFF - RGB - 8 bit files - flattened - NO profiles attached - saved as an IBM-TIFF. There is an extra fee if you leave us with extensive computer work and is charged on a case by case basis, for recording. There is no extra charge for large files and we suggest the biggest file possible. An LVT output is the best quality output but requires a large file size [usually from scanned or large-format-digital files].

Image size guide Files for LVT/CRT:
output needs to be a particular size for the output. Required for optimal quality, is a 1:1 file size - 8bit, RGB, tiff-format.
30~50mgb     - 35mm - output
60/70mgb      - 2-1/4 - output
210mgb         - 4x5 output
900mgb         - 8x10 output

Scanned images: Should be a little larger than the file size needed for output. We can make the small adjustments needed for the exact size required. Digital images or smaller files will have to be interpolated up in size.

If you require precise output, Clients must provide an original or something equal to match. In such an instance, it might be best for us to scan the originals. There are too many variables otherwise.

ALL DIGITAL SERVICES HAVE 5 -14 DAY TURN-AROUND. (Service times may vary depending on calibration and job-type)
Other notes - We prefer files be sent on CD or DVD. A thumb drive or hard-drive may be used but they must be PC                          formatted. If you have only a few images, a service like DROPBOX can be used. MAC formatted images can                          not be seen by our FILM-RECORDERS. Be sure all of your photos are PC/IBM formatted.
ALL FILM RECORDING ORDERS REQUIRE PAYMENT INFO BEFORE THE JOB STARTS.
RUSH SERVICE IS POSSIBLE BUT NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE.
